Personal preferences:

F4 Tail Art

The Skin Editor allows you to use any tail art you wish.  The Happy Campers tail art is my personal favorite.  Just use a bitmap editor to edit the default graphics.  

• The bitmap format is:  256 color, 8-bit palette.  
• Don't resize the image - make sure the sizes match the original - 256pixelx256 pixel.
• Microsoft Paint is all you need to edit the skins.

New Sky and Terrain

The 'moon-fix' sky & terrain fix is my personal favorite - created by a Korean!  This is included in the F4Patch.

There are other sky fixes as well, but I haven't included them here...
