Marine TexAs mentioned on the parent page, I chose to repair the riser area below the ejection port to restore the "original" look and configuration to the rifle. I cut the "cover tab" from the TN / BMP AR magwell and used this as the filler. I used liberal amounts of Marine-tex: The tab is thinner than the receiver, and so I put a second layer of Marine-tex over the top, like cake icing. This was very difficult because I cut the riser "wide" in that the tab just barely touched the receiver edges. In hindsight, I would not cut as much from the receiver or use some ABS plastic and cut that to shape. After I did all of this, I realized that I had plenty of ABS material from which to work... I have some ABS tool boxes and storage crates that I could have cut the material from. SmoothingI milled the bottom so it would be level with the top of the receiver. I switched between a common wood file and an orbital sander with 220 grit sandpaper. The sander worked surprisingly well. EPOXY DUST IS TOXIC - IF YOU SAND IT, WEAR A RESPIRATOR!!! Safety first - 'nuff said! It took the RIT Dye very well... follow the link to this page to see the results! |
