Century's AK Fire Control Part Set

A review.

(warning - the pics are about 500k each)

This is available from several vendors, such as DPH Arms, Military Gun Supply, and perhaps directly from the Century Arms webiste but I haven't looked there.

I bought a set of these purely out of curiousity - there has been some question as to the quality of the FCG... some really hate Century FCG parts. They seem acceptable to me. I originally posted this on Gunco and decided to post here as well.

The combo set consists of a trigger, disconnector, hammer, piston, and pistol grip. Average retail is $35-$40.

Physical Observations

These can be physically identified by the embossed "C" on all the parts.

The hook of the trigger is a bit rough due to machining marks on the edge. The trigger hook is huge compared to my other FCG sets of all flavors, and lends itself to a polishing job. An emery board, sandpaper, or a dremel polishing wheel would make it smoother. The following pics show a Chinese FCG in comparison. Lots of room to polish, or even re-shape if you are feeling adventurous:

Functional Observations

The trigger pull seems longer than other US-built FCGs. It is more comparable to a Chinese style trigger pull. It feels close to my friend's SKS trigger or my G3 trigger, but not quite THAT long.

The disconnector actually butts against the hammer and makes it feel "two stage" in that the feel changes slightly when it happens. "Not a problem" to me.

I've tried to capture the pull of the trigger in these pics. Note that when the disconnector contacts the hammer, it can be felt. Also note that on the very edge of the trigger, you can "hang" the hammer much like a two-step trigger. In these pics, they are loaded in a Norinco MAK:

CONCLUSION

This FCG is a standard quality kit.

"It just works"

It is not as smooth as a G2 FCG

It can be polished.

The combo set is a good value at $40.

I'd recommend it to anyone needing a decent quality compliance parts set!

Update spring '07 - I've bought about 3-4 sets and I've even step cut one set for a "two-stage" trigger.  They function flawlessly in any of the bent-flat builds I have (both Tapco and Nodakspud flats) and in a Saiga.  I still love them and still think they are the best value for US-built FCG parts.
